About Shaws

Together, Terri-Lynn and Tom Shaw operate two complimentary seasonal businesses. In the winter-spring they run Shaws Maple Syrup; an extremely popular sugar camp and pancake house that has been in Tom’s family for 120 years. In summer-fall, they run Shaws Catering; an extremely popular bbq catering business they started themselves over 30 years ago.

ELM Avenue’s Role

Understandably, Terri Lynn and Tom are very proud of Shaws Maple Syrup and Shaws Catering. Like generations before them, they are constantly striving to deliver more to the community with less. When they came to us, they asked for a complete overhaul of an out-of-date site. The new site had two main objectives:

  1. to better reflect the professionalism and community focus of this deeply rooted family business and

  2. to increase the efficiency of customer interactions.

They needed the site to tell customers about their businesses, answer common questions and streamline requests so they could have more time for themselves.

A Professional Look and Community Focus

Using a pre-existing logo, we updated the site with a simple, cleaner look with a consistent layout. We added a detailed history section and created a blog to provide an ongoing record of weddings, corporate events, interactions with media and changes to the property. Since the company has a well established customer base and receives excellent media coverage, the blog is the only source of digital marketing. There is no presence on social media. The blog demonstrates the professional approach to each event and gives customers a great tool for event planning.

Efficient Customer Interactions

We expanded the site so every service area now has its own page. Event pricing and menus are clearly displayed and kept up-to-date. Contact information and hours of operation are both easy to find and repeated throughout the site. A Do-It-Yourself Pig Roast page provides a full description of everything involved, including specific pricing, so customers know what to expect.

Our ongoing relationship with Shaws includes regular site updates, monitoring site analytics, and creating blog posts. We also update the site at the change of season, switching the home page to maple syrup in the winter and catering in the summer.
